A 2007 WBI-Zogby survey showed that 13% of U.S. employees report being bullied currently, 24% say they have been bullied in the past and an additional 12% say they have witnessed workplace bullying. The survey also showed that nearly half of all American workers (49%) reported that they have been affected by workplace bullying, either being a target themselves or having witnessed abusive behavior against a co-worker.
In a study by Rayner and Keashly, it was estimated that organizations would lose $1.2M per 1,000 employees based on replacement costs of those who leave as a result of being bullied or witnessing bullying. This estimate did not include the cost of litigation when victims bring suit against the organization.
